YWCA Transitional Living Program

As of June 2011, the YWCA Transitional Living Program will provide scattered site apartments to 11 survivors of domestic violence referred by the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter. The YWCA Transitional Living Program will support women on their journey toward economic self-sufficiency and freedom from abuse through the provision of housing, case management, advocacy, and an array of supportive services.

Most of the women and children will have no furniture, beds, or household items to furnish their new home. Battered women face myriad barriers to leaving an abusive relationship including continued threats, stalking and even the risk of homicide. Indeed, it takes bravery, courage, and determination to leave an abusive partner for an uncertain future.

To that end, the YWCA needs the support of Families for Families to help make a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence with limited resources. Families for Families has the power to improve the lives of hurting families by helping them start new lives in a comfortable home with their own furnishings. We need your power! It is anticipated that 11 families will require some combination of the items listed below.
